‘Couldn’t let them play’ – Allegri offers insight into what January business Milan may do

1 week ago 40

The January mercato is just over a month away, and AC Milan are expected to do a lot of business. However, this may not be the plan.

Last season’s mid-season mercato left many feeling underwhelmed. Milan signed several players, but there was seemingly no strategy to any additions. Of course, some arrived with reason, but Riccardo Sottil’s arrival was questionable, for example.

This January, the Rossoneri must be smarter. The room for error is small, and whilst the step to success seems small, it could do more damage than good. Doing too much can be defining, as can be doing too little.

Movement in January?

So, with the mercato creeping, Allegri was asked about the mercato in his press conference yesterday, and he did not give too much away.

Is anything needed in January to reach your targets?

“In the last month, five players have returned from the national team, practically dead. I couldn’t let them play. The squad size is right. The club is working to plan like the Milan of recent years.

“January is a strange transfer window… Bringing in players who aren’t needed… We have players who are growing and who can give us much more in the second half of the season.”

Most want the Diavolo to add at least three players, but whether this will happen remains to be seen. January could be an interesting month, for sure.
