Crystal Palace brutally mocks Liverpool with thinly-veiled Marc Guehi post

6 days ago 29

Crystal Palace appears to have poked fun at Liverpool by sharing a cheeky image of Marc Guehi grinning ahead of this week's Carabao Cup clash at Anfield.

The Reds have lost five of their last six games in all competitions, with one of the first of those defeats coming away to Palace a month ago.

Palace also got the better of Liverpool in the Community Shield in August, winning via a penalty shoot-out, before thwarting Liverpool in the transfer market when it pulled out of an agreement for Guehi to move to Anfield on deadline day.

It's fair to say the South London club has been a thorn in Liverpool's side in recent weeks, and the Eagles have another opportunity to get one over on the Reds on Wednesday.

Ahead of the game, Palace wrote on X: "Taking on Liverpool, again. This time in the Carabao Cup." Alongside the message was a picture of Guehi smiling.

The choice of image felt very deliberate, considering everything that went on with Guehi, Liverpool, and Palace over the summer.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Arne Slot will not speak to the media on Tuesday ahead of the game against Crystal Palace.

While managers and head coaches are contractually obligated to conduct pre-match press conferences before games in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League, the obligation does not apply to Carabao Cup matches.

Liverpool has, therefore, opted not to arrange one for Tuesday, as was the case ahead of the previous round against Southampton.

On that occasion, the Reds had also sent a delegation to Paris for the Ballon d’Or ceremony that evening, which included Slot and his coaching team.

It’s not uncommon for clubs to opt against Carabao Cup press conferences. Liverpool’s north-west rivals Everton, Manchester United, and Manchester City typically don’t bother.

In the past, Jurgen Klopp often sent his assistant Pepijn Lijnders to address questions from journalists.

However, Slot last season held a pre-match press conference before all six Carabao Cup matches. Liverpool beat West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Southampton, and Tottenham Hotspur en route to the final.
