Daily Briefing: Milan rival Inter for Man City midfielder – Modric could be ‘key factor’

Manchester City are willing to sell Mateo Kovacic in upcoming transfer windows, and AC Milan are reportedly keen on signing him.

According to Daily Briefing, offers are ‘expected’ to arrive in Manchester City’s inbox for Kovacic as early as the January transfer window. Given that he ‘is no longer a regular part of Pep Guardiola’s starting line up’, the possibility of selling him is not a remote one.

Crossing the divide?

The report states that Milan are keen on bringing the Croatian back to Serie A, but his former club Inter are also keen. Kovacic has admirers in the Premier League and LaLiga too though, so he might well be spoilt for choice.

Milan have been linked with Kovacic in recent years, most recently in 2023. A source apparently told them: “There are no talks ongoing over a new contract for Kovacic at City. The likelihood is that City will be receptive to offers in January.

“Milan in particular are looking at this opportunity to accelerate a move. West Ham and Aston Villa are also interested, but less advanced for now. Same for Villarreal and Real Betis.”

There is the possibility that the chance to join up with Luka Modric at Milan ‘could be appealing to Kovacic, and a key factor in deciding his future’. However, the 31-year-old may also look favourably on going back to Inter, given his previous ties to the Nerazzurri.
