AC Milan are still interested in signing Joe Gomez from Liverpool although they are likely to face competition, a report claims.
According to the Daily Briefing, one source has confirmed that there is still interest on Milan’s part in Gomez, who came very close to departing in the summer. The Rossoneri nearly landed him on deadline day but the deal was called off due to Liverpool failing to sign Marc Guehi.
The report stats that Milan ‘remain keen on getting a deal done this January if possible’, with the source adding: “Milan aim to capitalise on Gomez’s limited minutes. Milan feel their hopes are still alive and they are preparing a fresh move.” Calciomercato.com recently reported the same.
Liverpool would prefer to keep Gomez but are open to the right offers. There could be the chance for the Englishman to remain in the Premier League too because Tottenham are interested and Crystal Palace may try again as he was discussed during Guehi talks.
However, at present it ‘doesn’t make sense’ for Liverpool to consider letting Gomez go unless they’re confident they can bring in a replacement. This is because there are already doubts in the centre-back position, with Ibrahima Konate’s future at Anfield in doubt at present.
