Darwin Nunez has admitted he misses Liverpool’s fans, having credited them with helping him through “difficult times” while he was at the club.
Nunez left Anfield last summer after three years at the club, during which time he struggled to live up to the expectations that followed his big-money move from Benfica.
Having made the switch to Saudi Arabia, things haven’t gone too well for the 26-year-old this season either, having been dropped from Al-Hilal’s Pro League squad earlier this year following the signing of Karim Benzema, and severely restricting his opportunities ahead of this summer’s World Cup as a result.
Nunez though remains in the frame with Uruguay, and will be back in action over the coming days during the international break as his country takes on England and Algeria.
The first of those two games will see Nunez returning to England for the first time since leaving Liverpool last summer, and the striker has been reflecting on his time at Anfield and the support he received.
"I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss them [the people of Liverpool]," Nunez told AUFTV.
"The truth is, they made me feel very welcome, and my family too.
"During some difficult times I went through personally, the people always gave me that affection, that support, and that was very important to me, and obviously I miss Liverpool."
Nunez will be hoping he can catch the eye of any potential suitors - or prove a point to his current club - when he comes up against England at Wembley on Friday, making his first appearance in over a month in the process.
His future has been a major talking point for some time now, having been linked with a move away from Al-Hilal during the January transfer window. The Saudi club was unable to get a move through, though, which has resulted in him being frozen out of the squad for the remainder of the Pro League season.

Nunez had been linked with a move to Turkish club Fenerbahce, while he has also been touted for a surprise return to the Premier League, with Tottenham and Newcastle having been reportedly interested.
Liverpool.com says: Although his move to Anfield didn’t work out how he or the club would have hoped, Nunez did retain a lot of support from fans at Liverpool, and it would be great to see him back in the goals during the international break.
The situation he finds himself in at Al-Hilal is deeply unfair, and hopefully he will be able to get a move in the summer and revive his career.
