If one team should have won last night, it was Genoa. AC Milan were chasing the game throughout, and their poor form against bottom-half sides continues.
Despite the two wins after Christmas, Milan have certainly not shaken their struggles against sides at the bottom end of the table. A draw is certainly not a bad result, though, considering how the game actually went.
Perhaps if Christian Pulisic’s goal had stood, it would be different. However, the Rossoneri gave away a last minute penatly, which also brings up questions if the Rossoblu deserved the points again. In the balance of things, though, a draw is probably fair, though neither manager will be happy.
After the game, Massimiliano Allegri was understandably frustrated, stating that his team’s efforts were effectively useless, and after another similar game, his frustrations can be understood.
De Rossi’s reaction
For Daniele De Rossi, it was a lot of the same, given his side had held on well and his words to DAZN were relayed by MilanNews.
Do you want to start with the penalty awarded to Genoa in injury time?
“Let’s start somewhere else. Marelli has already said it all; he summed it up like this. That’s his opinion… It’s not mine, let’s move on.”
About the match:
“A fair draw based on what we saw on the pitch. They pushed hard in the second half; they didn’t deserve to lose. But we deserved to win based on the game we played, especially our great first half. We were a bit slow in the second half, but that’s normal against a team like that.

“Then it ended like this, and it’s a huge disappointment.”
Was Stanciu the penalty taker at the time? Was it a point earned or not?
“Before the match, I named two penalty takers: Malinovskyi and Martin, who had been substituted. It was my choice; I called him from the bench because I’ve seen him take free kicks and penalties in training, and he has an incredible shot.
“It was absolutely my choice. Seeing the others who were on the pitch, I think it’s understandable. That’s football… He’s a wonderful guy, I’m sorry he didn’t get this satisfaction. He’s had little time, but he’s the one who trains best of all.
“He’s a guy with great quality who has never lowered his standards of professionalism, and he deserved this joy, just like all the other players did for the match we played.”
On Columbo:
“I think he’s ideal for any style of play and any coach. He has great qualities; he gives everything. Playing him alongside a second striker could relieve him of some duties, and if he continues like this, he’ll be crucial for us. I think he has the potential to play at a higher level, too.”
