Koni De Winter spoke to the media after AC Milan’s 1-0 win against Cagliari, and after a good performance, the centre-back was clearly happy with his growth.
De Winter is one of the players who has received a bit more criticism so far this season, having struggled to put in good performances consistently. The game against Hellas Verona last weekend was a little bit better overall, but tonight’s display was the big step forward.
In our player ratings, De Winter was given a 6.5/10 after showcasing some good defending. After the game, he spoke to Sky Italia (via MilanNews) and made it clear that as he grows, the Milan fans will start to see the real De Winter.
Your best moment at this stage of your career?
“With consistency and confidence, the real De Winter will emerge. I’ll try to give my best as always, and then, with the team and staff, I’ll try to fit in well.”
What made it difficult for you?
“I think with consistency and minutes, along with confidence, you grow. With matches played, you move forward and improve. This is what I, and we as a team, are doing.”
How do you explain the difference between the first and the second half?
“They started very well, so congratulations to them. Then, during the match, we gained confidence and rhythm, taking control of the game.”
AC Milan are solid…
“The coach is focusing a lot on this, and we work on it every day to stay organised and defend as a team. We’re always improving, and I think it shows.”
It remains to be seen if the Belgian will start against Genoa on Thursday, seeing as Matteo Gabbia is back in action, while Strahinja Pavlovic should be good to go by then too. Considering that the schedule is very tight, it will still be important to have De Winter ready.
