This evening, Koni De Winter has spoken to the media for the first time about his move to AC Milan, speaking about his dream and ambitions.
There have been a few questions asked about De Winter since it was announced that he would be Thiaw’s replacement. However, the Belgian defender arrives for a good price with a heap of Serie A experience.
Additionally, it is key to remember that he came through Juventus’ youth ranks when Massimiliano Allegri was present, showing that the coach holds him in high regard. Of course, there have been a few years since. However, he is still young with a lot of potential.
De Winter’s words
For €20 million, you will struggle to find a better deal for a young defender on the market. Even if you were looking above that price bracket. Funded by Thiaw’s sale, though, the money can be reinvested elsewhere.
In recent minutes, he has spoken to the club’s media via MilanNews.
What are your first emotions?
“So many emotions, I don’t know how to describe them. It doesn’t seem real; it’s truly a dream.”

“To do well and gain experience. Wearing the AC Milan shirt isn’t for everyone, so I want to enjoy every moment and everything.”
Gilardino, Vieira… You know several former Rossoneri players. What did you ask them before coming?
“Yes, I also spoke to Messias. They all told me the same thing: You’re going to a great place with great people, you’ll be fine.”
You meet Mr. Allegri again. What’s your relationship with him?

What does AC Milan represent at this point in your career?
“A great club, a great club that needs no words. I remember when I was young, watching Ronaldinho, Pato, and Maldini. There were also a lot of Dutch players… So many players have passed through here. Growing up, I always watched AC Milan.”

What do you feel you can bring to the team?
“Confidence. A central defender needs to have confidence. I want to become a certainty in this defence.”
What kind of season do you expect from the team?
“A great season. I think Milan deserves to be among the top teams.”
What do you expect from champions like Modric?
“It’s always great to play with players like Modric, who have won everything both individually and as a team. I expect to gain experience with everyone. Leao in particular is incredibly strong. I was impressed by his size and speed. I want to get to know everyone and learn more about everyone.”
What memories do you have of San Siro?
“The first time I came, I was truly impressed by how big it is and how loud the fans make. I even remember the song the fans sing during the warm-up… It’s the most beautiful stadium I’ve ever seen in my life, and playing there wearing the AC Milan jersey will be even better.”
When you were a kid, did you think you’d make it this far?
“You know, I was thinking about it before? I couldn’t even imagine playing for a team and in a stadium like this. Life is strange and very beautiful.”
A message for the fans?
“Hello Rossoneri. I’m Koni, and I’ll see you at San Siro.”
