Del Piero explains why Milan’s advantage also brings pressure: “A huge responsibility”

Ahead of AC Milan’s encounter with Juventus tomorrow, the latter’s legend Alessandro Del Piero spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on what should be ‘a great match’.

Milan and Juventus have both started the season very well, with 12 and 11 points respectively, so it will be very interesting to see them square up. After four wins on the bounce, the Rossoneri’s goal is obviously to make it five, while ending the Bianconeri’s unbeaten run.

One person who knows everything about this fixture is Alessandro Del Piero, the former Juventus striker. He was interviewed by Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of the clash and shared his thoughts on both teams, from the Bianconeri’s attacking depth to the Rossoneri’s schedule advantage.

Alessandro, so far, there have been many ups and downs for your Juve, while Milan are coming off five straight wins…

“It will be a great match. It’s still early in the season, so maybe the return leg will be more interesting in some ways, but this is already a good test for both teams.”

How much weight does Juve’s busier schedule have?

“The fact that you’re playing in the Champions League doesn’t put any more pressure on you. On the contrary, when you only play one game a week, you absolutely have to do well, so Milan have a huge responsibility.”

Juve now have plenty of options up front, and Tudor is rotating Vlahovic, David, and Openda a lot. Based on your experience, is it right at some point for a clear hierarchy to emerge?

“You have to know the attackers you have on a character and human level to understand what’s the best solution. I think that in today’s football, changes are necessary if you want to have fresh players playing every three days.

“The current situation seems to be accepted by everyone, but it’s clear that not having continuity isn’t entirely positive. When you play four or five games in a row, you get used to certain situations, so you can be more ready.”

Do you think the former Juve men, Allegri and Rabiot, can win the Scudetto with Milan based on what you have seen so far?

“For a series of reasons, yes. They only play league football, which allows them to prepare for the games very well and field players who are physically ready, without travel or setbacks. They also have quality, not just Rabiot, but also Modric, Leao, Saelemaekers… It’s a well-structured team.”

You have a wonderful relationship with Yildiz. What advice would you give to Kenan?

“From what I’ve seen so far, both on and off the pitch, he doesn’t need advice. He’s a serious guy who loves to work hard, who wants to become a symbol of this club and be successful. I think he’s doing it in the right way,” he concluded.

It remains to be seen which team will prevail at Allianz Stadium tomorrow, but what’s clear is that the winner will receive a huge confidence boost. In case you missed it, Max Allegri also highlighted the importance of the game during his press conference.
