Deschamps and Nkunku speak after Iceland-France: “Not yet in top form”

The signs from Iceland vs. France are positive for AC Milan. In an unfavoured role, Christopher Nkunku was instrumental, and he has been praised for this.

The process of getting Nkunku up to full speed is a difficult one; unfortunately, you cannot just go 0-100, as it can have severe consequences. So, it is a case of building up minutes and intensity over a period of time.

Of course, the Frenchman has been getting to this point, and he should now be ready to play extended games for Milan. However, this leaves the choice with Massimiliano Allegri, who needs to decide where and when he plays.

Deschamps and Nkunku’s comments

Didier Deschamps opted to use him on the left in last night’s game, and whilst he blundered a few chances, he still scored for Les Bleus. Speaking after the game, the coach was very complimentary towards him, as Gazzetta dello Sport relays.

“Nkunku has the ability to remain calm in front of the goal. He’s not yet in top form, given that he hasn’t had much playing time at Milan so far.”

In addition to comments from the coach, the Rossoneri forward also spoke after the game, analysing his chances.

“As an attacking player, these are situations that can happen. The second chance came suddenly, I saw the ball coming at the last minute, I tried to direct it, but it went over. The most important thing is to stay focused on the game and the next move [which resulted in the goal].”

The report questions whether Deschamps offered a message to Allegri; we must wait to see. However, it is difficult to imagine the Italian not offering him more playing time going forward.
