Deschamps discusses Nkunku’s condition and Maignan as captain: “Volume, technical, mastery”

France manager Didier Deschamps spoke about two AC Milan players in his most recent press conference before the Iceland game.

Milan have several players away on international duty, but there will be a lot of interest, perhaps the most, in tonight’s game between France and Iceland. After the news of Adrien Rabiot, if the midfielder is to play, it would be a huge boost.

Already, the Rossoneri have had to deal with the return of Leao, due to his condition, whilst Alexis Saelemaekers is heading for scans after an injury, though it does not appear to be a serious one from the initial checks.

Maignan and Nkunku

The head coach already spoke about the situation with Rabiot, stating that his removal from training was precautionary. But it seemed like he could play in the game if he was deemed to be fine. He also spoke about two other members of the Rossoneri, as MilanPress relayed.

“There’s competition [for Nkunku]. If everyone is available, I have to make some choices. Nkunku has had some injuries, and he’s changed teams. He needs to find consistency, and that’s not easy with injuries.

“He’s capable of playing in different attacking positions, centrally, but also on the flank. He has volume, technical mastery. He’s quite skilled in front of the goal.”

Maignan being captain…

“Mike is a leader. Against Azerbaijan, when Kylian came off, he took the armband. He did it all last season and still does it from time to time with Milan. He has this ability to be a leader. He’s decisive. The fact that he’s managed to play so many games in a row means he’s there.

“He’s a great competitor, even in training, and he’s a hard worker, sometimes even too much for my taste. But that’s just who he is, and he knows himself well.”
