Di Lorenzo claims Napoli ‘deserved to equalise’ and comments on Milan’s Scudetto hopes

Giovanni Di Lorenzo believes that Napoli deserved a draw against AC Milan on the balance of play, given the chances they created.

Milan laid down an early marker in the potential title race as they beat the defending champions 2-1 at San Siro last night. The goals came in the first half from Alexis Saelemaekers and Christian Pulisic, with the latter having also set up the first goal.

A red card for Pervis Estupinan and a Kevin De Bruyne penalty seemed to change things in favour of Antonio Conte’s side as they halved the deficit before the hour mark, though in the end they were unable to force a leveller and the Rossoneri secured a massive win.

Di Lorenzo spoke in the press conference room at San Siro to dissect what was a difficult night for his side in a game of two halves, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

What went wrong?

“We could have managed the two goals we conceded better. The early goal turned the game in their favor. Then in the second half we created a lot of chances, and secondly, we deserved to equalise based on the chances we had. We could have been cleaner in the final pass.”

How do you start again?

“We could have tied it, but then we lost, and if we lost, it was because of mistakes. It’s a shame, because we had chances to equalise. It happens that we stumble. But now there’s the cup and there are immediate opportunities to start again.”

Are Milan worthy of the Scudetto?

“A quality team, with strong, experienced, and capable players. Then we must focus on ourselves. Tonight was a good match, but we’re disappointed not to have brought home any points.”

It wasn’t a composed Napoli performance…

“Well, we wanted to make up the game, and we’re getting nervous. I wouldn’t call it a disconnect after a lost game.”
