AC Milan are working on a number of different areas in the transfer window, including the goalkeeping department it seems.
You would be forgiven for thinking that when it was announced Mike Maignan would be remaining despite Chelsea’s advances, the goalkeepers were locked in for the coming season, with Marco Sportiello as the deputy.
However, Sky reported last week that Milan had held talks with Roma over a potential swap deal involving their respective deputies. Sportiello would join up with Gian Piero Gasperini at Roma, then Pierluigi Gollini – who fell out with Gasperini at Atalanta – would come the other way.
A new deputy?
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan are in talks to terminate Sportiello’s contract, which expires in 2027. Following his termination, Sportiello may then have the opportunity to return to Atalanta, a team he previously played for and who are now offering him a four-year contract.
Alternatively, Cremonese could also be an option for him. The newly promoted club are in fact looking for a goalkeeper after their return to Serie A, so he might well have a choice to make.
Milan are thus looking for a replacement for the role of Maignan’s back-up in the event of Sportiello’s departure. Among these, Pietro Terracciano stands out as a replacement.
