AC Milan have tabled their first contract offer for Manuel Akanji, who remains the primary target to bolster the defence before the window closes.
Milan need to add a centre-back to their squad, as requested by Max Allegri, and Akanji has been identified as the best solution. Not just for his quality and experience, but also the financial side of things as Man City are willing to accept around €15-17m.
Granted that Akanji isn’t exactly super young at the age of 30, he still has several years left in top football and Milan need someone like him in the three-man backline. Indeed, against Cremonese, a leader was definitely missing at the back.
First offer now made
According to the latest from Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan have now tabled a first contract offer for Akanji, after opening talks with Man City earlier on. Fabrizio Romano made it clear earlier today that an agreement with the English side won’t be a problem.

As such, which Di Marzio also points out, Akanji will have to provide an answer to Milan’s offer for the negotiations to proceed. Although the Rossoneri don’t have Champions League football, they can offer the Swiss international a protagonist role in the squad, which could be enticing.
For now, no credible alternatives have been pointed out by the media. Jakub Kiwior was mentioned earlier but his move to Porto is more or less confirmed.
