Di Marzio: Renewal ‘very close’ as Maignan gives ‘approval in principle’ – the details

After a wonderful performance in the win over Como, further good news has arrived regarding the future of Mike Maignan.

Nico Paz and Lucas Da Cunha will have gone to bed having nightmares and visions of Maignan’s ridiculous saves to keep them out on multiple occasions. The Frenchman was a strong candidate for man of the match at the Stadio Sinigaglia, though Adrien Rabiot’s match-winning brace makes him a rival.

Renewal imminent

During his segment on Calciomerctao l’Originale, Gianluca Di Marzio spoke about the renewal of Maignan and he confirmed that things are now getting very close to the finish line.

“Milan are counting on finalising Maignan’s contract. You saw today’s performance. His renewal is worth more than [the cost of] a signing, it’s very close, and the final details need to be finalised. In the next few days, it’s expected to be finalised until 2031,” he said (via MilanNews).

On his website, Di Marzio reports that Milan and Maignan are very close to reaching an agreement on a new contract. The player has already given his approval in principle over a deal that will run until 2031.

The parties have continued to work on the negotiations and now the final details are being resolved. The former Lille man has been a key figure for the Rossoneri in recent years, having made 186 appearances since his arrival in Serie A.

Added to these are the trophies he won with Milan: a Scudetto and a Supercoppa Italiana, as well as the award for best goalkeeper of the season in 2021-22. This adventure is set to continue, with a renewal agreement now very close: Milan expect to have his signature soon.
