Di Marzio: Reunion, return or someone new – Milan have three ideas for January defender

With a striker all but signed, AC Milan will now turn their focus to signing a central defender, and there are a few options.

The defensive issues at Milan have been evident so far. Of course, the Rossoneri’s record is not terrible, but there are glaring problems that can be worsened with injuries. Many had feared this, but now it is playing out.

Koni De Winter arrived as the only replacement for Malick Thiaw, which did not really strengthen an already small department. Now, he too has been seen as lacklustre, and the demand for another defender is clear.

Three options with experience

Several names have been thrown into the mixer, and they may well be for the foreseeable future. However, it seems the Rossoneri have some ideas in mind.

This morning, Gianluca Di Marzio spoke, via MilanNews, on Calciomercato – L’Originale about the next moves for the club, with Niclas Fullkrug effectively a new signing.

“Milan now has to make a defender; he is trying to figure out who can move on loan. Skriniar would like to, but it is the captain of Fenerbahce who will hardly leave him. He also likes Dier of Munich, a former Bayern Munich player, back from an injury.

“Attention to the name of Gatti, there is a very strong name with Allegri: he will return from the injury and we need to understand if he will fall within Spalletti’s choices. Milan could be found ready, provided that Juventus gives it.”
