Di Marzio states Milan are close to ‘zero’ with mercato budget after Fullkrug: “Loan opportunity”

Before the January mercato, it has been made apparent that AC Milan will not be working with a big budget. Now, that has only been confirmed further.

It seems that the initial estimations about the budget for January were almost spot on. The prediction was that there would be money for a few moves, but they would have to be low-cost opportunities, and now, this has been confirmed.

Of course, without the Champions League, or just Europe generally, the bank was always going to be low. With hopes of a Scudetto, though, there was the hope that more budget could be made available.

But this is not the case.

Running on empty

Despite the lack of funds available, the Rossoneri still need to add at least one defender to the team. However, they will be reliant on low-cost opportunities. Gianluca Di Marzio spoke to Sky, via MilanNews, about the situation.

“Milan are looking for a defender with a budget that’s not exactly zero, but close to it. So, a loan opportunity, a few swaps. They haven’t identified the right player yet. Also, Dovbyk is still reportedly eyeing Milan, but now Milan has signed Fullkrug, and I don’t think they’ll pursue Dovbyk again.

“However, the player would like to stay in Italy; we need to see which Italian team might try to sign the Ukrainian striker during the January transfer window.”
