Diario AS: Milan and Lazio finalising €20m Ricci-style deal for Gila – the situation

AC Milan and Lazio are in the process of finalising a deal for Mario Gila, according to a report from Spain.

Over the past few days, speculation has intensified regarding the possibility of Milan landing Gila, who Igli Tare signed for Lazio when he was the sporting director there. His deal expires in 2027, with seemingly no chance of a renewal in the capital.

Handshakes soon?

According to Diario AS, Milan and Lazio are finalising a deal worth €20m for the central defender, one that would go through in the summer mercato rather than the current January transfer window.

Gila is one of the most sought-after players in the league, and the Milan directors are convinced by the investment. The operation seems to be quite advanced, with Lazio resigned to losing a player who will not renew.

The transfer would also have repercussions for Real Madrid, who have a 50% resale clause. In other words, Los Blancos would receive a windfall of €10m for the player they developed at La Fábrica (Real Madrid’s youth academy) and even gave his first-team debut.

The 25-year-old went to Lazio from there when Tare was director in a €6m deal, and his current value is around €30m. Even so, the fact that his contract enters its final year this summer will lower the transfer fee for the Rossoneri.

It’s not the only offer Gila has on the table, although it is ‘one of the most enticing due to the prestige of a club like AC Milan’, the report concludes. The negotiation is similar to the one that brought Samuele Ricci from Torino, with the operation believed to have been wrapped up months before.
