Diario AS: Milan open talks over Real Madrid full-back who can leave – Modric’s role

AC Milan are in talks over Fran Garcia, and it is reportedly his former team-mate Luka Modric who is sponsoring the idea.

The Milan-Madrid connection has been red hot in recent years. It all began in 2019 with the arrival of Theo Hernandez from Real Madrid, and continued a few summers later, firstly with Brahim Diaz – who later returned to Los Blancos – and then with another full-back in Alex Jimenez.

Two of the recent deals between the Rossoneri and Real involved full-backs, and the next one could also be a player in the same position. According to reports from Spain, in fact, contacts are underway between Milan and Fran Garcia.

Contacts held

According to Diario AS (via MilanNews), Fran Garcia is a name on Milan’s wish list. The left-back was a regular starter for Carlo Ancelotti’s team and he started six of the six games at the Club World Cup under Xabi Alonso.

His future with the Merengues, however, is in doubt after the signing of Alvaro Carreras in the same position. Real Madrid may be considering keeping Carreras and Ferland Mendy, so Garcia could be free to leave.

The Spanish source report this morning that the agent Ginés Carvajal – who represents Garcia and Carreras too – has been in talks with Milan, knowing full well that the Rossoneri are looking for a left-back. The good relations between the clubs could certainly help.

Luka Modric is apparently backing the deal, as the Croatian midfielder – who recently signed for Milan – has seen him up close and believes in the Spaniard’s qualities. Milan are evaluating several options on both the left and right but do not want to spend more than €30m combined.
