Manchester City will have another opportunity to close the gap at the top of the Premier League when they face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola's men dropped points last time out in the league when they drew 2-2 against Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal's win over Leeds on the same weekend means they trail the Gunners by six points.

Both teams won their Carabao Cup semi-final ties this week, but focus now turns to the title race. City will be hoping to trim their deficit with three points at Anfield, and they will do so with the possibility of some returnees from injury.

The Manchester Evening News has assessed the latest injury situation following the manager's update in his pre-match press conference...

Ruben Dias

Injury: Thigh.

Dias hasn't played for City for the last month after suffering his injury in the draw against Chelsea. He travelled down to London with his teammates last week and was back in the squad on Wednesday.

What Guardiola said: "He's back, we will see if he plays minutes, but it is good news for us."

Possible return date: Liverpool (A) - Sunday 8 February 2026.

John Stones

Injury: Thigh.

Stones has been unavailable since early December, but his return is expected to be a slow burner.

What Guardiola said: "John yesterday made the first training session with the team, so he is step by step coming back."

Possible return date: February.

What Guardiola said: "Ruben started training yesterday and Jeremy not yet."

Possible return date: February.

Josko Gvardiol

Injury: Leg.

Gvardiol is recovering from a broken leg he sustained in the draw against Chelsea at the start of the year.

Possible return date: Unknown.

Mateo Kovacic

Injury: Ankle.

The long-term absentee, Kovacic, has been out with an ankle injury since November.

Possible return date: March.

Savinho

Injury: Thigh.

The Brazilian picked up the injury in the goalless draw with Sunderland.

Possible return date: February.
