Diogo Jota's wife shares touching embrace with late Liverpool star's friend

Diogo Jota's wife shared a warm embrace with one of the late Liverpool star's friends during the Porto Marathon over the weekend.

Bruno Duarte completed the race while wearing a Liverpool jersey with Jota's name and number on the back, and on his way around the course he encountered Jota's widow, Rute Cardoso.

Duarte and Cardoso hugged for a few seconds before Duarte returned to the course to complete the race.

Duarte, a close friend and youth teammate of Jota's, was by Cardoso's side as his coffin was carried into the Mother Church of Gondomar ahead of his funeral on July 5.

Jota died alongside his younger brother, Andre Silva, when the car the pair were traveling in blew a type on a road in Spain as they journeyed back to England ahead of the start of pre-season for Liverpool.

Liverpool retired the No.20 jersey following Jota's death on July 3, and committed to paying out the remaining two years on his Reds contract to his family.

Ahead of Liverpool's game against Real Madrid on Tuesday, Jota's former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold laid a wreath and left a message at Jota's memorial outside Anfield.

The message from Alexander-Arnold, who was teammates with Jota at Liverpool for five years, said: "My mate Diogo, you are so missed but still so loved. Yours and Andre's memory will always live on.

"I smile every time I think about you and will always remember the great times we shared. Miss you mate, every day. Forever 20 YNWA. Love Trent and family.”

A red PlayStation controller was also laid by Alexander-Arnold in reference to of Jota's well-known love of gaming - particularly soccer video games. The Playstation controller was signed: "Forever a champion 20. TAA."

Former Liverpool player and current Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso also left a message at the memorial, which read: “Real Madrid CF expresses its deepest condolences to Liverpool FC and the family of Diogo Jota. The football world mourns the loss of an exceptional person and a remarkable player.”

Madrid defender Dean Huijsen, who was a rumored Liverpool transfer target before he joined Madrid from Bournemouth over the summer, also visited Jota's memorial, as did Emilio Butragueno, who is Madrid's Director of Institutional Relations.
