Disasters result in 3s and 4s: Player ratings for Napoli-Milan from Italian papers

AC Milan crashed out of the Supercoppa Italiana final in Saudi Arabia in the semi-finals, losing 2-0 to Napoli on Thursday night.

David Neres and Rasmus Hojlund scored before and after the break respectively for Antonio Conte’s side to book their place in Monday’s final, with Milan putting in another subdued performance to go out of a cup competition, after their 1-0 defeat to Lazio in the Coppa Italia.

Only the league remains for Massimiliano Allegri’s men, and tempers boiled over at the full-time whistle, causing Napoli to put out a statement accusing the Milan boss of using abusive language despite the fact the two benches were going at each other for most of the game.

Napoli 2-0 AC Milan: Player ratings

La Gazzetta dello Sport have published their ratings this morning, giving Milan’s overall performance a score of 5.5 out of 10, and Allegri’s management of the game a 5.

The best player in red and black in their eyes was Ruben Loftus-Cheek who got a passing grade of 6. Koni De Winter on the other hand had a disaster in the middle of the back three against Hojlund, and he was given a 3.

Fikayo Tomori, Zachary Athekame and Luka Modric were the only ones to join Loftus-Cheek on a 6. Alexis Saelemaekers, Ardon Jashari, Adrien Rabiot and Youssouf Fofana got a 5.5, while Mike Maignan, Strahinja Pavlovic, Pervis Estupinan and Christian Pulisic got a 5. Christopher Nkunku even got a 4.

Corriere dello Sport gave out 6s to Pavlovic and Modric only. Tomori, Athkame, Fofana, Loftus-Cheek and Rabiot were given 5.5s. Saelemaekers, Jashari, Estupinan and Pulisic got a 5. Maignan and Nkunku were awarded 4.5s, and De Winter a 4.

Tuttosport also singled out De Winter (4), Maignan and Nkunku (4.5s) for criticism. Nobody got a passing grade, with the rest being a sea of 5 and 5.5 scores.
