‘Doing everything’ – Allegri and Tare putting ‘intense pressure’ on Maignan for renewal

Although AC Milan are fighting for the Scudetto at the moment, there is a story overshadowing any potential success, and that is Mike Maignan’s future.

Throughout the year, positive performances have normally been followed by updates on Maignan’s future or frustrations about the situation. Of course, with a clean sheet, this is understandable. However, even after big saves or goals conceded, the Frenchman remains the big topic.

It is, in many ways, relentless. Whatever happens, Maignan is the focus and with him now being the captain, the watching of his future is only more extreme.

Pressure on the renewal

In the past week, positive updates have been provided and it seems likelier than ever that he will renew his contract with the Rossoneri. However, there are no guarantees and until a renewal is signed, he remains a big talking point.

Internally, talks are still ongoing, but the pressure is being ramped up, as Antonio Vitiello writes for MilanNews this morning.

“For at least a month, MilanNews.it has been discussing Tare and Allegri’s intense pressure on Mike Maignan. This has been extensively discussed in past editorials.

“Let’s reiterate: the manager and the sporting director are doing everything they can to keep the French goalkeeper. Daily conversations, public remarks of praise, everything they need to get inside the player’s head and convince him to stay.

“There’s a glimmer of hope, and there’s also the belief that Mike may gradually change his mind. The financial offer remains the same: €5 million plus bonuses, more or less the same as the one made a year ago.

“We’ll see in January if there will truly be a positive acceleration. No one wants to predict the outcome of the negotiations. The operation is extremely delicate, and the utmost care is needed in mediating between the parties.”
