AC Milan were managed for the 200th time by Massimiliano Allegri, but the result was not one to celebrate the milestone. Instead, it was a frustrating one.
There can be some positives taken from the game last night. Milan never gave up and deserved to level the game when Rafael Leao scored, perhaps even a little earlier. However, the goal to put them into that situation of needing a goal was not great.
Additionally, the fact that the point could have been lost with a penalty kick, even if it was harsh, is another reason to be frustrated. Here are the key stats from the game.
The key stats
Starting with the scoreline, it can be viewed in two ways and both of them are right. Firstly, frustration at the renewed failure to beat a lower-positioned team and then also relief that the unbeaten streak has continued.
Ultimately, the Rossoneri dominated the ball, had more xG, despite the penalty, and pummeled the Genoa goal with attempts. In fact, Allegri’s men had more shots on target than the Rossoblu had full stop.
The corners only add to the domination statistics. However, there may be some frustrations with the amount of yellows, which will now see Fikayo Tomori suspended this weekend.

Genoa’s record
One stat that is, perhaps, slightly concerning is the fact that Genoa have now matched a nearly 50-year old record against the Diavolo. As Opta Paolo reports, last night’s draw was their third at San Siro in a row.
In the past two games, the Rossoblu were 13th and 12th in the standings, certainly a more competitve side. However, with them sat 17th this time around, whilst Milan sit second, a deeper feeling of regret may set in.
Allegri’s milestone
The final stat of note was that Allegri has now reached 200 games in charge of the Rossoneri across his two spells.
His record is largely successful, with 104 wins, 55 draws and only 41 losses, which represents how strong he has actually been for the club on the touchline and he will certainly hope to improve on that in the remainder of this season and beyond.
It would have been nice to win his 200th game. However, it wasn’t to be.
