Dominik Szoboszlai apologized to Liverpool supporters for the "misunderstanding" after the FA Cup defeat to Manchester City earlier this month.
The midfielder appeared to exchange words with a small group of fans after the final whistle in the 4-0 defeat, although most had left before full-time. He also gesticulated towards the crowd before being ushered away by Federico Chiesa.
It was an incident that did not sit well with supporters, many of whom have questioned the wisdom of criticizing the fanbase in the wake of such an abject defeat.
Speaking ahead of the midweek Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain, Szoboszlai used his media appearance to say clarify his actions.
"Maybe it was a misunderstanding between me and the fans. I didn’t mean it in a bad way and I know what the club means for the fans and what fans mean for the club.
"We do everything for the fans and if it was a misunderstanding, I apologize. They can understand that I am feeling exactly the same way that they do. We are with them and hopefully they are with us."
