Dominik Szoboszlai has same dream as Arne Slot's 'obsession' at Liverpool

Dominik Szoboszlai is dreaming of Champions League glory with Liverpool this season, after the Reds were knocked out by eventual winner Paris Saint-Germain last term.

The Reds started the year as the favorites to hoist the European Cup in May, but PSG won on penalties at Anfield in the last 16 to send Arne Slot's men out of the competition.

Liverpool has started this season's league phase encouragingly, winning three of its four games, including victories against both of the Madrid sides at Anfield.

Szoboszlai is eyeing a spot in the final next May, and the location of the final gives the 25-year-old extra incentive to get there: it will take place at the Puskas Arena in Szoboszlai's native Hungary.

“I don’t think there could be a better story than this (Liverpool winning the Champions League in Hungary)," Szoboszlai told World Soccer Mag. "My dream has always been to win the Champions League.

“I now have the opportunity to be playing in a team that has a chance to reach the final and to be in Hungary. Honestly, it would be like a fairy tale.”

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher recently said that he suspects Reds boss Slot is "obsessed" with winning the Champions League due to how much he mentions last season's loss to PSG.

“I think Slot has a little obsession with the Champions League. He speaks about PSG a lot last season, on the back of losing to them," Carragher wrote for Sky Sports.

Jamie Carragher believes Arne Slot has an "obsession" with winning the Champions League

He continued: “And I’d almost feel like he thinks ‘that’s our next step’. I could feel it the way he said it, we’ve won the league, but we want to win the Champions League, it was that type of thing.

“And it just stuck with me in his head; you can feel he desperately wants it, as all top managers do but when you’re a manager of Liverpool, the club is synonymous with the Champions League, so we have to go close.”

Liverpool's next Champions League fixture is on Wednesday, when PSV Eindhoven visits Anfield on game day five.

Liverpool's only defeat during last season's league phase came away to PSV – but the Reds had already qualified for the knockout phase by the time that game took place, so Slot fielded an inexperienced team in the Netherlands which lost 3-2.
