Donadoni suggests Milan could exploit ‘defensive difficulties’ against Napoli

Ahead of the big clash between AC Milan and Napoli, the former Rossoneri player Roberto Donadoni shared his thoughts on what he believes could be a good one.

Milan have started the season well with three wins in four games, bouncing back from the Cremonese defeat in the best way possible. Napoli, meanwhile, have picked up where they left off last season with four wins to their name so far.

Speaking to Sky Italia ahead of tonight’s encounter, as transcribed by MilanNews, the former Milan player Donadoni was asked about Massimiliano Allegri’s impact. He also said that the Scudetto battle will probably be between multiple teams this season, and not just two.

Milan and Napoli. Which team has surprised you the most so far?

“Given last year’s performances, we expected Napoli to make a similar start. Milan, at the start of this season, has proven to be a very competitive team, and I hope they continue like this.”

Milan are competitive and entertaining…

“It shows that Allegri, often accused of being a results-driven manager, can get the team to perform well. It feels like there is a cohesive group that enjoys playing. When you have a high level of technique, the game is enjoyable to watch.

“I hope it’s a good match tonight. Napoli are having some defensive difficulties, but they have a squad capable of competing with anyone.”

Modric and De Bruyne have made an immediate impact…

“It doesn’t surprise me; if anything, there might have been some concerns about their physical condition, given that they are no longer young. However, they are exemplary professionals and players above any other, at a top level.

“They are only an asset to the team. By setting an example like this, they inspire others. Let’s hope they maintain their physical condition until the end.”

Who do you think Napoli’s rivals for the Scudetto are?

“I don’t think there’s just one team: Milan, Inter, Juve, and Roma are absolutely competitive. Milan, like Napoli last year, don’t have any European cups and can manage their strengths better. However, I can’t identify a single rival to Napoli.”

The game is scheduled to kick off at 20:45 and as always, we have identified some key battles that could decide the outcome. Then, of course, it will be a case of tactics and given the pedigree of the managers, that should be a great battle.
