Donnarumma’s agent states Milan’s status caused exit: “Didn’t have a solid club”

Gianluigi Donnarumma left AC Milan in 2021; however, the Italian has always had links back to the club, given his rise through the ranks.

When Donnarumma first debuted for Milan, there was a special feeling around the youngster. However, when he opted to leave at the end of his contract, things got pretty sour quite quickly, understandably so.

This, as you may recall, resulted in San Siro throwing Dollarumma dollars onto the pitch, which were visibly seen. However, the Italian has tried to speak positively of the club when given the opportunity to. It has often done little to mend relations, though.

‘Any way possible’

In the past, he has spoken about why he chose to leave the club in 2021, and it only furthered the frustration towards him. Today, his agent Enzo Raiola spoke about the move and reinforced his decision to leave the Rossoneri; his comments to Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel have been relayed by Milan Press.

“Speaking from a project perspective, we left AC Milan four years ago. That AC Milan didn’t have a solid club behind it at the time, and then there were the various changes within the club. We anticipated the club he was part of.

“Except for that sensational year under Maldini and Massara that led to the Scudetto, all those years weren’t at AC Milan’s level. By going to Paris, we created that project for an important player like Gigio, and it was also important for the Italian national team, but also for his current status.

“We have always pursued Gigio’s step-by-step growth project to improve his career, in any way possible.”

Considering Raiola suggested a Milan return was possible earlier this year after an eighth-place finish, it is a little confusing.
