France head coach Didier Deschamps has stated that Adrien Rabiot is not being played as much because of what happened at Marseille.
Rabiot was mentioned as a potential target for Milan early in the summer, especially when Massimiliano Allegri arrived. The rumours went quiet and then, towards the end of the mercato, an opportunity emerged.
A bust-up that Rabiot had with Jon Rowe caused Marseille to officially transfer list the duo. While looking for a way out, the possibility of reuniting with Allegri arose and the Frenchman even apparently gave up some money to make it happen.
Deschamps spoke at a press conference ahead of tomorrow night’s match against Iceland. Among the questions he asked was the fitness of Rabiot, with Milan hoping he comes back with some minutes under his belt. MilanNews relayed his words.
“I have options. Adrien was in a certain position [with Olympique Marseille]. He’s fine, that’s for sure. Obviously, he’s playing less than the others due to what happened in Marseille, but I’ll see.”
Rabiot is yet to train at Milanello, and not getting much playing time with Les Bleus would raise questions about his fitness when Serie A resumes on Sunday night.
