AC Milan won their 19th Scudetto in the 2021/22 season, which many would hope to relive. However, it wasn’t solely their own doing, according to a former Inter player.

The Scudetto season was magical for many reasons. Milan, back on their perch at the top of Italian football with poetry across the season. A first trophy in six years, young players showing their best and a feeling of hope for the future.

Of course, it has grown in appreciation since. It hurts that the Rossoneri, in many ways, are not recognisable as the same team now, whilst also failing to really capitalise on that success. However, Massimiliano Allegri will hope to bring things back.

Dzeko’s admission

Considering Inter lost the title against the Diavolo, there have been a few left slightly hurt by that season from a Nerrazzuri persuasion. Today, Edin Dzeko commented on the success and how Milan eventually deserved to win the title against Inter, as MilanPress relays from his interview with Sportweek.

“That year, we were the strongest, but we managed our energy poorly. We gave everything in the Champions League without going all the way, while in the league, we underestimated our opponents, who were good at taking advantage.

“Congratulations to AC Milan for winning, but Inter squandered too many chances that year. This year, the fight for Europe will be more balanced than ever. It will be fun, especially if Italy manages to earn the extra slot to qualify five teams for the Champions League.”
