Eintracht Frankfurt's manager has confirmed that there will be a change of goalkeeper when the German team hosts Liverpool in the Champions League.
Frankfurt has scored 12 goals but conceded a whopping 18 in its last five games, and Brazilian goalkeeper Kaua Santos lined up between the sticks in each of those games. Dino Toppmoller, the Frankfurt manager, said that Santos will be taken out of the firing line against Liverpool, with Michael Zetterer taking his place in the starting line-up.
“We made this decision after several discussions because we felt it might be important for Kaua to take a step back right now. There’s been a lot coming at him recently,” Toppmoller explained.
“We have three top goalkeepers. ‘Zetti’ already played our first few matches and exuded great calmness – he also did very well with the ball.
"That’s why we made this decision, also in Santos’ best interest."
Regarding Liverpool team news, the Reds remain without Alisson and Giovanni Leoni, while Ryan Gravenberch was also missing from training on Tuesday.
Gravenberch rolled his ankle during Liverpool's loss to Manchester United on Sunday and was taken off, and it seems he is unlikely to be in contention to play in Germany.
"I took him [Gravenberch] off because he twisted his ankle," Slot said after the loss to United.
"Is he an injury concern? That's what we have to wait and see tomorrow, but we have to play in two days again because again we have to play three games in seven days, like we had to do after the last international break.
"There is not a lot of time for players to recover, but the good thing is we have more than one good midfielder."
In better news, Wataru Endo was back in training, having missed the game against United, after hurting himself in the loss to Chelsea just before the international break.
Liverpool goes into the game off the back of four successive defeats, but Slot was not concerned by his team's level of performance against United, given the amount of chances the team created.
"I cannot promise you again on Wednesday evening that we will again be able to create eight or nine open chances like we did against Palace and like we did today [against United]," Slot said on Sunday.
"But maybe it's a better idea to create less and score more."
