Emiliano Martinez issued a defiant message on social media after his glaring mistake allowed Liverpool to open the scoring against Aston Villa. Martinez misplaced a pass to Villa teammate Pau Torres just before half-time at Anfield, allowing Salah the opportunity to slide the ball into the empty net.
On Sunday, Martinez took to social media, writing: "I never lose. I either win or I learn." Villa manager Unai Emery took full responsibility for Martinez's mistake against the Reds, conceding it came as a result of the style of play that he is trying to implement.
“It was easy for Salah," Emery said. "It was a huge mistake but one thing in our process under my responsibility. I accept it and we build a team here through the style we want to keep in our process in the club and in the next matches.
“We must avoid huge mistakes like we made today in the first goal we conceded. But it’s something part of our process and we are going to analyse, to identify how we will build in these circumstances for the next matches.
“But of course, through it we are feeling comfortable and strong. The players are getting the level through our position and our idea.”
Gary Neville, meanwhile, hammered Villa for trying to play out from the back as they were just seconds away from going in level at half-time.
“What the hell are they doing? Madness from Aston Villa," Neville said on NBC at half-time. "They’re away at Anfield, there’s Liverpool players, five or six of them, they’re ready to pounce.
"And what Martinez is doing there I have no idea, that first pass is awful, because you watch very closely, he passes it and then rather than getting back to his goal, he goes to try and close down [Cody] Gakpo thinking that Salah is going to square it and just leaves the goal completely open. It’s madness from Aston Villa.

“Anfield is one of the grounds, it’s tight as well. It feels tight. You’ve got five or six Liverpool players that are all looking, they’re on the front foot ready to pounce knowing that if Aston Villa make one mistake that they’re going to be in on goal.
"Why you wouldn’t just smell the danger, see the warning signs that have been there?”
