Enzo Maresca is still without a job since leaving his role as Chelsea head coach on New Year's Day and the Italian has now been told he would be the perfect fit for Liverpool
Former Italy defender Marco Materazzi believes ex-Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca would be the "perfect" fit for the Liverpool job should Arne Slot be sacked.
Maresca departed Stamford Bridge on New Year's Day after falling out with senior figures inside the club over a variety of different things. More than three months on from his exit, the Italian is still without a job in football and has been heavily linked with taking the Manchester City job if Pep Guardiola leaves, as some rumours suggest, at the end of the current season.
However, his compatriot Materazzi thinks a move to Anfield could be a better fit for Maresca, with Liverpool boss Slot under increasing pressure. The Dutchman, who lifted the Premier League title in his debut season in England, has overseen a disappointing campaign for the Reds and it is unclear whether he will continue in his job role next season.

There is also uncertainty over who will be in charge at Real Madrid next season. Alvaro Arbeloa was appointed earlier in the season after Los Blancos parted company with Xabi Alonso but the long-term future of the former is unclear.
Speaking to Hajper, Materrazi said: "Can Enzo Maresca make Real Madrid champions again? Yes, why not? He speaks very good Spanish because he was at Sevilla, but I think Maresca also has a good opportunity to get a job in the Premier League for next season too.
"Could Maresca be the next manager of Newcastle United? Not for me. Manchester United would be a good move for Maresca but he's too connected to Manchester City to make that move.
"I think Liverpool would be the best fit for Maresca. He is the perfect coach to lead a rebuild at Liverpool to create a new vision for the team."
Liam Rosenior was appointed as Chelsea head coach less than a week after Maresca's departure, but Materrazi does not think the 41-year-old is the right man for the job. The former Everton defender believes Stamford Bridge favourite Cesc Fabregas would be the ideal fit at this moment in time.
"I was at Everton against Chelsea. I was at the FIFA Club World Cup final," Materrazi added.
"With Enzo Maresca, they were a totally different team. What I saw in Liverpool was an easy game for Everton. Chelsea did not impress me. I think they have to change.
"They are a young team and I do not know if they have the best manager for what Chelsea need right now. They have to try for Cesc Fabregas this summer.
"I love the job he is doing right now in Como. I don't know if he will move because he wants to take Como to the Champions League, but I can see Chelsea in the future for Fabregas. Why not?
"Chelsea are the best club for Fabregas because they have young players who will follow his words immediately."
