Chelsea suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, with a number of first-team stars out of action for the Premier League encounter through injury
Chelsea were without a number of first-team stars on Saturday evening, as they suffered a 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.
Anthony Gordon ultimately proved to be a thorn in Liam Rosenior's side, with the Magpies forward's 18th minute strike being decisive in the encounter, as the Blues struggled to create opportunities. Speaking about the goal at full-time, Rosenior explained: "There's a tactical issue.
"We press in a different way to most teams, it's a new way of pressing. Mistakes happen. They had nothing but we gave them a goal. It feels like every mistake we're making is ending up in the back of the net."
However, the head coach also insisted that the performance "wasn't all wrong" as Chelsea also limited Newcastle to just one goal on the night, and were effective in shutting down chances for the visitors.
He added: "I wouldn't say it's all wrong. First 15-20 minutes, we had chances.
"The goal gave Newcastle energy. We lacked a bit of mental freshness in the final third and the second thing is we need to make sure, if we're not going to score then the other team don't score.
"It's disappointing we didn't keep a clean sheet when they didn't create much."

With a number of first-team stars absent from the encounter, football.london breaks down the latest Chelsea injury news and when certain players are expected to return...
Estevao
Estevao has been missing from Chelsea's last three Premier League matches, as well as their FA Cup win over Wrexham and Champions League loss to PSG this month as a result of a hamstring injury. While Rosenior initially hoped to have the Brazilian available for selection against Newcastle, he admitted earlier this week that he remains a little way from full fitness.
Speaking earlier this week, Rosenior said: "Este still a little bit further away. We want to be careful with Este because of the nature of his hamstring injury. We don't want it reoccurring at a crucial stage of the season. We'll see what he's like for Tuesday's game against PSG."
Potential return date: Tuesday, March 17 vs PSG.
Jamie Gittens
Rosenior also expected Jamie Gittens to be at his disposal for Saturday's match with Newcastle, only for the winger to feel an issue in his hamstring after training on Friday. Rosenior said after the 1-0 loss: "It's difficult with the injuries in the attacking areas. Jamie was due back on the bench but he felt his hamstring late after training yesterday."
Potential return date: Tuesday, March 17 vs PSG.
Filip Jorgensen
Teddy Sharman-Lowe was named on Rosenior's bench for Saturday's encounter as a back-up to Robert Sanchez, despite expectations that Filip Jorgensen would assume that position. However, after the game, Rosenior explained that Jorgensen suffered an injury in training on Thursday.
The head coach said: "Filip felt his groin in training yesterday but hopefully he's back soon."
Potential return date: Tuesday, March 17 vs PSG.
Levi Colwill
Levi Colwill has been sidelined since picking up an ACL injury during pre season. He is not expected to play in 2025/26, although he has returned to "modified training" as of recent.
Potential return date: Next season.
