Another update has come out regarding Mike Maignan’s contract situation, and it seems to be heading in a positive direction.
Heading into the current season it seemed nailed on that it would be Maignan’s last at the club, given that talks over a renewal were not going anywhere and he seemingly had his heart set on leaving on a free transfer.
However, more optimism has filtered in the past couple of weeks about the possibility that the Frenchman might change his mind. In fact, talks have rekindled and seem to be pointing towards a positive finale, something which appeared unthinkable even a few weeks ago.
Moretto and Romano’s latest
Now, Matteo Moretto and Fabrizio Romano have addressed the rumours that Maignan is close to extending his contract in a video on their YouTube channel, confirming that while it is not done yet there is growing confidence.

Romano: “Optimism is growing at Milan. I can add that optimism is also growing among the player’s entourage, significantly compared to a few months ago.
“A few months ago, the situation was seen in a completely different light, but today, even on the player side, which is crucial because Milan is waiting for an OK, which is not a minor detail.
“Even on the player’s side, they are starting to become increasingly optimistic about this renewal offer from Milan. We confirm the figures: €5 million, which could rise to a higher figure with bonuses.”
Moretto: “It’s the same structure as Leao’s contract. Maignan would effectively become the highest-paid player with the Portuguese. The final, definitive yes is still missing, so Milan are hoping to get it as soon as possible. Milan won’t wait a month, but I think a week.”
