AC Milan need a striker, that much is clear. However, there are several routes which could be taken by the club.
Signing a striker is a difficult one to weigh up. In some ways, it is as simple as finding someone to score goals for you. However, then you have to weigh up age, injuries and even consistency. After all, signing a youngster after a 20-goal season could struggle to hit 15 for the rest of his career.
So, Milan need to be careful in the mercato, and this is why they have maybe taken a bit longer to replace Olivier Giroud properly. Santiago Gimenez had a chance to be that, but he has struggled to hit the ground running since arriving in January.
Lewandowski hypothesis
Dusan Vlahovic seems to be an option for next summer, with his contract at Juventus expiring. However, he is not the only elite striker who could be available for nothing next year. In fact, the Rossoneri could try for Robert Lewandowski, as reports have suggested in the past few days.
Today, Fabrizio Romano commented on his YouTube channel about the situation, as relayed by MilanNews.
“Aside from AC Milan, I want to talk about the Robert Lewandowski issue. Robert Lewandowski and those close to him today, rightly and understandably, are completely focused on Barcelona’s season.
“Lewandowski has started this year very well in La Liga and the Champions League with Barça, and Lewandowski is aiming to win everything. This year, everyone at Barça is focused, especially those who are at the end of their contract, like Lewandowski, are trying to win the Champions League this season.

“Lewandowski won’t make any decisions today, tomorrow, at the end of October, at the end of November, at the end of December, and I don’t think even at the end of January. Lewandowski intends to finish his season at Barcelona, so he wants to do everything as best he can.
“Then, if you ask me if there’s a chance Lewandowski might leave for free, I think it’s a real possibility, even over 50%. That opens up scenarios, which could be called Milan, Saudi Arabia, or whatever. But today, that’s not a discussion Lewandowski wants to have.
“If Milan-Lewandowski becomes a concrete conversation, and it would be fantastic to see a player like that in Italy, we’ll report on it, but we’re not at the point where we need to talk about a real negotiation.
“Requests for information are part of football, and they can certainly lead us to more in the coming months. But today, reporting on the news, Lewandowski’s mind is understandably focused on the present with Barça.”
