Wolfsburg’s general manager has revealed the back story on David Odogu’s move to AC Milan, including how the interest ‘changed everything’.

Odogu was the final signing of the summer window as Milan welcomed him on a four-year contract with the option of a fifth. They are believed to have paid €7m in fixed fees plus €3m in bonuses to land one of Germany’s brightest young defensive prospects.

While waiting to see whether he accumulates minutes with the senior team or if he plays more for Milan Futuro, Odogu gave his first press conference as a Rossoneri player at the Casa Milan headquarters earlier today and admitted it has been a whirlwind last few days.

‘We wish him the best’

Now, Wolfsburg’s general manager – Peter Christiansen – has spoken to Kicker to reflect on the summer window the Bundesliga side had. As MilanNews relay, he also spoke about losing the 19-year-old to Milan.

“We wanted the player to establish himself here, there was no doubt about it. There was a clear plan to do so, which would have included a loan to Germany or elsewhere to increase his playing time and foster his personal development,” he said.

“There was good communication about it, but everything changed completely when Milan wanted him. David and his agents were convinced that this was the right step for him. We wish him all the best.”
