Manchester United are already planning for next summer's transfer window, with two midfielders on their radar as they look to bolster their squad further
Manchester United are eyeing up two significant midfield signings next summer - with Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Conor Gallagher all on Ruben Amorim's wishlist.
Amorim, the United boss, is prioritising midfield reinforcements as he looks to rebuild his squad, with Brighton's Baleba being a major deal under consideration.
Despite Brighton resisting United's late interest in the 21-year-old last summer, the club remains interested, and the Cameroon international himself is keen on a move to Old Trafford.
However, United also have their sights set on Nottingham Forest's England international Anderson. His ability to play both as a No.6 and as an attacking midfielder means they're prepared to go all out to secure him.
Anderson, 23, has been attracting considerable attention following his standout performances for both club and country, and Forest are bracing themselves for a fight to retain him.
However, he's likely to come with a smaller price tag than the £100m-rated Baleba, making him an attractive potential acquisition. Veteran United player Casemiro's contract is nearing its end, and he would need to accept a pay cut to stay.
United have also shown interest in former Chelsea star Gallagher, should he be available for loan from Atletico Madrid in January, as he seeks to secure a place in the World Cup squad.
Last summer, United invested heavily in forwards, bringing in Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko. They're now ready to do the same with their midfield as part of their long-term rebuilding strategy to support Amorim.
After a summer of heavy investment, Amorim's squad had a dismal start to the season, languishing in 14th place by the end of September. However, they've since turned things around with an unbeaten streak of five matches.
Following a last-gasp draw against Tottenham, United now find themselves in seventh place in the league table. The Red Devils are set to return to action next weekend when they host Everton at Old Trafford.
