FA Cup third-round draw date and time as Liverpool set to discover fate

1 day ago 6

The FA Cup takes center stage in the new year, with Premier League and Championship clubs entering at the third-round stage.

Liverpool last won the FA Cup, the oldest cup competition in professional soccer, in 2022, beating Chelsea 6-5 on penalties after a goalless final at Wembley. The Reds have won the FA Cup eight times, in 1965, 1974, 1986, 1989, 1992, 2001, 2005, and 2022.

Liverpool also reached the FA Cup final in 1914, 1950, 1971, 1977, 1988, 1996, and 2012, suffering defeat. Only two teams have won the competition more times than Liverpool: Manchester United (13) and Arsenal (14). Chelsea and Tottenham are also eight-time winners.

Despite Liverpool's success in the FA Cup over the years, the Reds failed to make an impact in last year's tournament.

After beating Accrington Stanley 4-0 in the third round, Arne Slot's players were surprisingly knocked out by Plymouth, losing 1-0 away from home.

They'll soon discover their first opponents in the 2025-26 FA Cup, with the second round taking place this weekend, signalling that the third-round draw is just around the corner.

When is the third round draw?

The draw is set to occur at approximately 6:45pm local time on Monday, December 8. That's 1:45pm ET in the United States.

In the United Kingdom, live coverage of the draw will be provided by TNT Sports 1.

The event will precede the final match of the second round, featuring Brackley Town vs. Burton Albion.

When will the third-round matches be played?

The FA Cup's third round is scheduled for the weekend of January 10, 2026, with matches expected to span from Thursday to Monday due to television scheduling.

All 20 Premier League and 24 Championship clubs will participate in the draw, alongside at least two sixth-tier teams and Liverpool, courtesy of the second-round draw.

What would a victory mean for Liverpool?

Victorious teams, including Newcastle, will receive £121,500 (around $160,000), while the losing sides will get £26,500 (around $35,000).

This amount increases to £127,000 (around $170,000) in the fourth round and continues to rise incrementally with each subsequent round.

Matches broadcast on television in the second round also carried an additional £50,000 (around $66,000) bonus.
