Fabregas discusses previous Milan links and revenge after reverse fixture: “Not ready to win the Scudetto”

Cesc Fabregas will hope to get one back on AC Milan after his Como side were beaten 3-1 earlier in the season. He hopes things go differently at San Siro tomorrow.

It is understandable why Fabregas is considered to be one of the brightest new coaches in European football currently. He holds a lot of the pedigree of some of the best to come before him, and even some of the best current managers.

A Spanish midfielder who previously represented Barcelona is one of the go-to checks on the list for elite managers currently. So, with his record with Como, it is no surprise why his stock is so high, and it could only grow further if his side can beat Milan and grow closer to a European place.

Fabregas’ pre-match words

Before the game, Fabregas offered his thoughts to the press, and he stayed clear of getting dragged into a spat with Massimiliano Allegri, as MilanPress relays.

“Being well doesn’t always mean winning. Football would be explained in a different way. We have to do the right things, try to do things right. We are a team and a very young company, then that’s the path. We are not ready to win the Scudetto.

“I know we did well, but from the way I know football, where I, for example, always had to win with the best team and the best coach is like that. For us, the path is not always linear, but it makes you grow. It makes you see things from another perspective.

“The road is long and beautiful. Whatever happens. When you lose or when you win my message is always the same.

His view on Milan…

“With Milan always ahead, but then we always lost? You have to adapt; it will continue to happen. We do not go against the superficiality of the thought that a game resembles that of last year. For what we are doing in Como, I would like something different.

“Those who think that Como is prepared to win the Scudetto are wrong, I’m saying it from day one. The other day, Fiorentina scored three goals, two goals. We weren’t good at concretising with Cagliari, Genoa, Atalanta… we don’t have phenomena or players who make the difference.

“Sometimes what you do becomes gold, sometimes not. Como always wants to propose, always accelerate. We don’t have Lamine Yamal or Lewandowski, but we want to grow. Continue, that every year there is an important growth.

“That in 2-3 years we will be mature and aware of what we want to do.”

A chance to move to San Siro previously…

“If I was the Mr. X of 2011? No, I wasn’t Mr. X. For Milan, there was once, in 2016, when I didn’t play much with Conte initially, I talked to Gadzidis. But when I left Arsenal, it was just Barcelona or nothing for me.

“It was Barcelona or Arsenal. We’re not really a big one, even if the numbers say we should be higher. We don’t have the stability of a top club, but in Como against Milan, my feeling is that in a top match Milan, even suffering our strength and game, they were very calm.

“They were waiting for their moment. Only experience gives you this. Modric doesn’t give a damn, he’s been through everything. If he plays against 150 thousand people it doesn’t change. Not to ours. That’s what we need to make clear.

“Then you lose the sense or perspective. If you remove Sergi Roberto, Morata… we are the lowest middle-aged team.”
