Federico Chiesa says he loves the song that Liverpool fans sing for him — but he is glad now to be playing more often under Arne Slot in order to pay them back.
Since signing from Juventus in 2024, Chiesa has struggled for regular game time at Anfield. However, he has played a bigger role so far this season and scored on the opening day of the campaign against Bournemouth.
While he has mainly been used as a substitute, aside from in the League Cup, Chiesa is very happy at Liverpool. There was interest in the 28-year-old during the summer, but he opted to remain on Merseyside rather than return to Italy.
"At the beginning, it was a bit embarrassing," Chiesa told Sky Sports when asked about his song. "They were singing for someone who wasn't playing! But I did appreciate it a lot.
"Then, when I started playing, and the goals came, in the last few months, I was glad because it did make sense at the end. Then they are singing for someone who is actually someone [who is playing].
"I'm really happy and I'm really honored to play for such an amazing fanbase."
Chiesa has a very good relationship with Liverpool fans and he hopes to continue to play a role this season, with the Reds aiming to catch Arsenal in the Premier League and go far in Europe too.
"That is what you hope for," he said. "Last year, I didn't play much so having this support from the fans was a good reason to try and give more.
"I do it on a daily basis, but having the support from the fans, it helps you to give more. I think they like me because I do give my best every time I play. I'm happy."

On his song, he added: "My wife sometimes sings it to me, or also the players.
"When I get here in the morning, they are singing 'You can hear them...' It's a nice tune."
Liverpool.com says: Chiesa is clearly a good player to have around the locker room. He loves being a Liverpool player and has played his part at times this season already.
The Italian will want to improve further and get even more minutes, not least with getting back into the Italian national team in mind. He has the quality, but it is all about fitness and form.
