The well-known journalist Carlo Festa has sent a clear message to the city council in Milan regarding the San Siro project, stating that AC Milan and Inter will have to ‘wait until 2050’ to get anything done.

As has been the case since the start, the San Siro project involves a lot of politics. Many different authorities are getting involved, there is a very clear opposition and the laws are severely outdated when it comes to building stadiums.

In our latest long read on Substack, we discussed all the latest developments and why it’s so complicated for Milan and Inter to get a deal over the line. When it finally seems like there is an opening, something else happens and yet another deal emerges.

Festa delivers the sad truth

Il Sole 24 Ore’s journalist Carlo Festa, who is very well known for his financial knowledge and coverage of the Milan clubs, shared his thoughts on the situation on X. Safe to say, he’s not sugarcoating his words, and while they may seem exaggerated, there is truth to what he’s saying.

“Inter, Milan and their respective American shareholders risk waiting until 2050 for the new stadium, if politics and prosecutors decide to block the project. In other countries around the world, a new stadium is built in very little time,” he tweeted.

As said, 2050 is obviously an exaggeration but equally, the project has been tainted by delays since the start. And if the constraint ends up being put on San Siro, then the clubs would have to find a new area if they want to remain within the city limits.
