AC Milan will not be lifting the Coppa Italia this season and their drought will extend past 23 years after defeat against Lazio in the last-16.
Just like in the league game at San Siro on Saturday, one goal was enough to win it, and it came in second half again. However, this time it would be Lazio celebrating as Mattia Zaccagni’s header from a corner with 10 minutes left settled the tie.
Massimiliano Allegri made five changes to the starting line-up from the previous game, and the influence of certain players like Matteo Gabbia, Luka Modric, Davide Bartesaghi and Christian Pulisic (who came off the bench) was evident.
Lazio 1-0 AC Milan: Player ratings
Today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has given Milan’s performance a 6 out of 10, the same score that Allegri’s management of the game got.
They judged the best player to be Pervis Estupinan, who got a 6.5, while Rafael Leao was the joint-lowest scorer (5) given that he spurned a big chance not long before Lazio’s winning got.
Mike Maignan was the only other player to get above a 6. Fikayo Tomori, Strahinja Pavlovic, Ardon Jashari, Adrien Rabiot, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Pulisic and Modric all got a passing grade.
Numerous players struggled though: Alexis Saelemaekers and Samuele Ricci were awarded a 5.5, while Koni De Winter and Christopher Nkunku joined Leao on a 5.
Corriere dello Sport gave Allegri a 5.5, criticising his rotation. Maignan got a 6.5 for keeping Milan in it for as long as he did, while Rabiot got the same and Loftus-Cheek was given a 7. Scores of 5.5 went to Saelemaekers, Jashari and Estupinan; Leao and De Winter got a 5.
