Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso passed away overnight at the age of 76, and as confirmed by the FIGC earlier today, there will be a minute’s silence before every Serie A game this weekend.
Commisso completed the purchase of Fiorentina back in 2019, becoming the new owner of the club, and he invested a lot from the get-go. In addition to the very modern training ground, known as Rocco B. Commisso Viola Park, he also spent a decent chunk on players to achieve sporting success.
Sadly, he had been battling with an illness and as confirmed by Fiorentina early on Sunday morning, he passed away overnight. Even more heartache for La Viola, in other words, as they also lost their director Joe Barone very suddenly less than a year ago.
In honour of Commisso’s memory and everything that he did for Fiorentina, there will be a minute’s silence before every Serie A game on matchday 21, or rather the remaining fixtures. This was confirmed by the FIGC earlier today in a statement.
Some of you might also remember that Commisso actually attempted to buy Milan before he shifted his focus to Fiorentina. It was when Yonghong Li was experiencing difficulties with paying the instalments to Elliott Management that the American offered him a way out.
Instead, Yonghong Li defaulted on his loan and Milan ended up in the hands of Elliott.
