Milan’s Primavera side came away with one point from their clash against the league leaders Fiorentina this afternoon, though it perhaps could have been more.
After the defeat to Juventus last time out, Giovanni Renna’s boys returned to action after the break earlier today, taking on the league leaders Fiorentina. Given the Rossoneri’s form, the 1-1 result was probably the best they could have hoped for.
It was also Fiorentina that took the lead in the game. After just 14 minutes, they made the most of a mistake at the back and Riccardo Braschi found the back of the net. Slowly but steadily, however, Milan managed to work their way back into the game.
In the 33rd minute, Lorenzo Ossola was left unmarked in the penalty box and Filippo Plazzotta picked him out with a great cross. All of a sudden, Milan had equalised and that certainly threw a spanner into Fiorentina’s game plan.
The Rossoneri then had the first big chance of the second half, following a counter-attack that Filippo Scotti led before handing it off to Alex Castiello. The striker fired a shot towards goal but it was saved by the goalkeeper, who got a bit lucky as it bounced off the crossbar.
Fiorentina took over the game after that, you could say, as they created some half-chances here and there and probably could have won it towards the end. Nevertheless, Milan managed to hang onto the point and considering the situation in the standings (9th), it was an important one.
