Five managers Chelsea could appoint immediately if Liam Rosenior is sacked today

With Liam Rosenior's Chelsea future hanging by a thread, we're looking at five managers the Blues could hire if the former Strasbourg coach is relieved of his duties

There's no denying it now - Chelsea are in a full blown crisis. On Tuesday, the Blues slumped to a dismal 3-0 defeat against Brighton, their fifth consecutive loss in the Premier League and their seventh in the last eight matches in all competitions.

Even more alarming is their complete lack of cutting edge. Chelsea have failed to score in each of those seven defeats, with their only goals since mid-March coming against Port Vale, a League One side.

While losses to PSG, Manchester City and Manchester United could be framed as spirited but unfortunate, the display against Brighton offered no such mitigation. Chelsea managed just a single shot in the first half and failed to register one on target across the entire match - a performance defined by abject disarray, lacking both cohesion and conviction.

The pressure on Liam Rosenior has reached fever pitch. Speaking after the game, he admitted he felt "numb," branding his side's display "indefensible" - a word that is beginning to feel just as fitting for his own position.

With scrutiny intensifying, attention is already turning to potential successors. Here, football.london examines five managers Chelsea could turn to immediately should the club decide to make a change.

Filipe Luis

Filipe Luis was reportedly a top candidate alongside Rosenior when Enzo Maresca was dismissed back in January. Since the ownership has already conducted extensive due diligence on him, he represents the most seamless transition available.

Having left Flamengo in March, the Brazilian is currently a free agent and would require no compensation package to hire. His history as a former Chelsea player also grants him an immediate connection to a disillusioned Stamford Bridge crowd.

However, the primary concern remains his lack of experience - having managed exclusively in Brazil, Luis would be stepping into an entirely different environment. Much like Rosenior, there are doubts over whether he could assert authority over a dressing room packed with expensive, underperforming stars, making the move feel more like a like-for-like replacement than a decisive reset.

Oliver Glasner

With his departure from Crystal Palace already confirmed for the end of the season, Oliver Glasner might be tempted to jump ship a few weeks early. His tenure at Selhurst Park has been stellar, most notably highlighted by their FA Cup triumph last season.

While Manchester United were once considered the favourites for his signature, their interest may have cooled significantly given Michael Carrick's impressive run as interim boss at Old Trafford.

Chelsea would be getting a proven winner who has already shown he can punch above his weight in the Premier League. He offers the kind of tactical discipline and structural integrity that the current squad has been sorely missing.

Andoni Iraola

Like Glasner, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is leaving his post at the end of the season. With the club already confirming Marco Rose as his successor this week, Iraola could yet opt to depart ahead of schedule.

To secure his services immediately, the Blues would likely need to offer a massive salary and a very secure long-term contract. It would be a significant statement of intent to poach a manager from a side currently level on points with them.

Iraola's high-intensity style would certainly provide the electroshock therapy this Chelsea team needs to find its pulse. Snatching him now could also be a poetic twist, especially if he helps Chelsea pip the Cherries to a European place.

Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas is currently performing miracles in Serie A, where his Como side are unexpectedly pushing for a top-four finish. While his loyalty to his project in Italy is strong, his deep emotional ties to Chelsea remain a powerful factor.

As a dedicated student of the Pep Guardiola school of football, his tactical intelligence is considered world-class among the younger generation of coaches. Chelsea fans still sing his name and his appointment would provide an instant boost to the toxic atmosphere currently surrounding the club.

The difficulty lies in convincing him to abandon a potential Champions League qualification for the chaos of what's shaping up to be a mid-table rebuild. It would take a monumental effort from the board to persuade him that now is the right time for a homecoming.

John Terry

If the board decides to prioritise 'vibes' and morale for the final stretch, then turning to a bona fide club legend could be seen as a logical move. John Terry is already working within the club's youth setup, meaning the owners are well-acquainted with his character and work ethic.

He's made no secret of his dream of managing the senior team and would likely jump at a month-long interim role to prove his worth. While his managerial resume is currently thin, his status as a "Captain, Leader, Legend" carries immense weight in the building.

His limitations in tactical experience would be offset by his natural charisma and unparalleled leadership abilities. In a squad that looks devoid of fight, Terry's presence might be the only thing capable of restoring some pride to the badge.

Having said that, the owners have already experimented with the 'club legend as interim boss' approach. When Graham Potter was sacked in 2023, Frank Lampard was brought back for a short spell - and it's fair to say his appointment failed to deliver the desired results.
