Alessandro Florenzi has shared his thoughts on AC Milan’s Scudetto season once again, stating that the group as a whole was the Rossoneri’s secret ingredient.

The 2021-22 season is one that all Milan fans have fond memories of. Not only did the Rossoneri return to the Champions League after several years not being in it, but they also managed to lift the Scudetto at the end of the campaign.

Alessandro Florenzi, who had arrived at the club in the summer, played an important part with his leadership and contributions on the pitch. When asked about it in his recent interview with Serie A, he highlighted that the group as a whole was the secret ingredient.

“It was an incredible thing because it was truly a special year, as we also returned to playing in the Champions League that season. Everything started with us getting eliminated from the Champions League. We were still hanging on in the league; it was in January, February.

“We were three, two points behind the top team, which was Inter in this case. We put all our energy into the league and in the end, we had an amazing run. I think that was definitely one of the peaks of my career.

“As I like to say, the best player who helped us win the Scudetto was the group. Not Leao, not Hernandez, not Ibrahimovic, no Kjaer. It was a group that worked in the same direction and I think that’s the secret ingredient to really winning something important.

After his contract expired in the summer, Florenzi decided to retire from professional football at the age of 34. In addition to the Scudetto with Milan, he also had many great seasons with Roma, and also featured during the Euros with Italy in 2021 (when they won).
