Florian Wirtz's journey through injury hell with support from model girlfriend

4 hours ago 3

Florian Wirtz's Liverpool career might not have commenced ideally, but his personal life is thriving courtesy of his girlfriend Aaliyah.

The German sensation was among the Reds' headline signings during their extraordinary summer transfer window, which witnessed Anfield bosses invest around $600 million on new talent. Wirtz established his reputation at Bayer Leverkusen and through his displays for Germany.

Beyond soccer, he typically maintains his private affairs away from public scrutiny, though images of him with Aaliyah began surfacing last year. She was seen on the BayArena turf, participating in Leverkusen's celebrations of the team's undefeated league and cup double.

She was later photographed in the stands alongside the German partners at Euro 2024 last summer, where she conversed with Sophia Weber, Kai Havertz's girlfriend, amongst others.

As images of Aaliyah spread across social media, fans were quick to shower her with compliments, with some dubbing her a "Queen" while others declared Wirtz was "winning on and off the pitch."

When she's not supporting her boyfriend, Aaliyah works as an influencer and model.

While her Instagram remains private, she has gathered over 115,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares fashion guidance and endorses beauty products.

The couple are believed to have started their relationship in 2022, coinciding with Wirtz's cruciate ligament injury.

As reported by the German outlet BILD, Aaliyah was a constant pillar of support for him during his gruelling rehabilitation journey as he strived to regain peak fitness.

His hard work paid off when he made a remarkable comeback, playing a pivotal role in Leverkusen's historic league and cup double during the 2023/24 season under Xavi Alonso.

Despite Bayern Munich reasserting its dominance over German soccer last season, Wirtz put in another stellar individual performance, prompting Liverpool to sign him.

The 22-year-old has found it challenging to make an immediate impact at Anfield, being relegated to the bench for last weekend's Merseyside derby.

Wirtz is keen to earn back his spot in the starting line-up for Saturday's challenging match against fellow undefeated side Crystal Palace.

Arne Slot clarified that he benched Wirtz as part of careful workload management.

Wirtz accepted the manager's rationale, telling Sky Germany: "After the Champions League game [against Atletico Madrid], he told me I wouldn't start in the league because he wanted to control the load a bit and see which game I could play better in.

"He decided on the Champions League game, that I would start there and then sit on the bench in the league. I fully understood that. I was able to recover a bit and didn't have to exert myself as much."
