Last season, AC Milan played five derbies, winning three and drawing the other two. This season, they have played one and won it.
There was a lot said about the importance of coaches in last season’s derby successes, and the fact that Simone Inzaghi could not get the better of Milan despite the tactical changes implemented across the games.
Now, that storyline is finished with Inzaghi leaving, as well as the Rossoneri getting a new coach of their own. However, the general storyline of Diavolo success continued on Sunday night, with Massimiliano Allegri guiding his team to three points.
Allegri’s Milan
A lot has been said about the win, but the biggest reference has been towards the head coach and his influence on the team in such a short space of time. Ultimately, Milan have gone from a mid-table team to a Scudetto contender in a few months.
There are other variables at play, but the biggest has been the changes implemented by the new man, as Billy Costacurta stated on Sky Sports, via Calciomercato.com.
“The ultimate expression of a lack of concentration? Absolutely, very Allegri-esque. The focus is worth noting: they gave the ball away, but they conceded very little. There was that penalty… If it’s right to award it, what has that got to do with football? Yes, that’s how it is.
“The Rossoneri have a clear perception of danger. Allegri had said so: in this respect, it’s AC Milan’s biggest improvement.

“I also believe the players on the right side can intercept and put themselves in the best possible conditions. The balls weren’t arriving there. Rabiot is a fantastic signing for Milan this year. It’s possible that Rabiot can also coach the youngster, Bartesaghi.”
