Fofana explains how Allegri ‘makes the difference’ and discusses midfield signings

Youssouf Fofana has shared his thoughts on Max Allegri’s impact so far, the new arrivals in midfield, the performance against Arsenal and more in a recent interview.

Fofana missed out on the first friendly of the pre-season, due to a minor knee injury that he has now seemingly got rid of. As such, he could be on the pitch for Milan’s game against Liverpool tomorrow, and he will speak to the press later today alongside Max Allegri.

As a teaser to the presser, however, the midfielder spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanPress) about the new relationship with Allegri, the performance against Arsenal and his new colleagues in midfield. All in all, he’s very optimistic about the season ahead.

Fofana’s words

How are you doing?

“Good. I’ve had time to rest and I’m ready. We’re fired up. Last season is over and we can’t change anything. Now we have the right determination for the new season.”

On the Arsenal defeat…

“We did quite well despite fielding a young team. We’ll improve further in the future. We’re working hard, and having played against Arsenal will give us more experience.”

On Allegri…

“He has a good connection with the group and is close to us. We talk about football, but also about other things. On the pitch, he makes the difference with the things he explains to us, and we follow him.

“We needed someone like him. He has won a lot in Serie A and has had excellent runs in the Champions League, reaching two finals. It’s good for the team that he’s here.”

On the new arrivals in midfield…

“Ricci is a very good player, with and without the ball. He’ll quickly develop the right automatic skills.

“Modric? We’re all ready to sacrifice ourselves for the Ballon d’Or. We can’t wait to train with him. There’s a lot to learn from someone like him, just by watching him play or talking to him off the pitch. He’ll give a lot to Milan.”

The Champions League…

“Milan must play in the Champions League every season. The club’s request isn’t a request: Milan has no choice. The advantage of not playing in it? Yes and no, because the cups are played by six or seven Serie A teams, while the others will have the same amount of time as us to prepare for their league matches.

“We shouldn’t be looking at last season’s Napoli, only ourselves. The goal is to win every game we play and return to competitiveness.”

Milan are also hoping to recover Mike Maignan for the Liverpool, so it could be the return of the French duo tomorrow at midday. For Allegri, it will be another opportunity to instil his tactics into the players ahead of the first competitive games.
